Highland Associates was selected to provide MEP Engineering design
services for the renovation and expansion of St. Peter’s University
Hospital existing Emergency Department located on the first floor
of the main hospital. Based on the hospital’s phasing plan, the project
was constructed in four separate phases allowing the hospital to function
during construction:
Phase I: Demolished the existing laundry department and relocated the
existing medical records space into this area, which is approximately
6,600 square feet.
Phase II: Renovated the former medical records area into 15 new
emergency department pediatric beds. This space is approximately
5,100 square feet.
Phase III: Relocated the existing fast track and support spaces and
renovated the former area into 10 fast track pediatric beds along with the
required support spaces and a new corridor. This space is approximately
4,000 square feet.
Phase IV: Renovated and expanded the existing Emergency Department
in multi-phases. This included creating separate adult and pediatric
intake areas, relocating the existing ambulance entrance, relocating the
existing trauma room, providing a new adult fast track, women’s exam
pod, support space etc. This area has a minimum bed count of 40 and
is approximately 16,000 square feet.
Based on the (4) phases above, the overall square footage for the entire
project is approximately 31,700.
