Highland Associates was selected to perform a comprehensive evaluation of the High School Auditorium at Wayne Highlands School District in Honesdale, PA. The existing auditorium was a 8,350 sq. ft. space with a stage area of 3,450 sq. ft. and mezzanine area of approximately 2,890 sq. ft. The main part of the auditorium height ranged from 17’ to 25’, steel joists above the ceiling were approximately 9’-6” tall. The main floor was sloped downward toward the stage approximately 4’. Existing walls were brick, plaster and perforated panels. The ceiling was plaster and acoustical tile and was suspended below the steel joists. The house sound console was located at the rear center of the auditorium. The 950 seats that occupied the auditorium and the carpet in the aisles were in need of replacement.

A comprehensive Engineering Review encompassing Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing/Fire Protection and Structural was conducted. The HVAC system was replaced and will provide heating and cooling. Electrical panels throughout were upgraded and replaced as required. New LED lighting was provided for the house as well as the safety lighting in the catwalk areas above the auditorium ceiling.

The renovation project includes demolition of the ceilings and some of the wall finishes. The seating was removed and replaced with 980 new, floor mount chairs and floors were prepped and refinished to accept the new auditorium seating. Carpeting and wooden base was installed throughout the auditorium; the concrete flooring under the chairs were painted and sealed.
